Raised: in Portree on the Isle-of-Skye, largest of the Inner Hebrides

Primary + secondary education: 1974-1987 Portree High School

Tertiary education: BA (Honours) Fine Art, specialising in Drawing + Painting and Historical + Critical Studies, under

Neil Dallas Brown, Sandy Moffat, Stuart MacKenzie, Jack Knox, Steven Mulrine and John Calcutt

Awards: received on two occasions the prestigious Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Scholarship + the Hart Bursary

First prize in the Van Gogh Centenary Portrait Competition. Exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, London and Aberdeen Art Gallery as part of the NPG Portrait Competition Exhibition on two occasions. Involved in group exhibitions in the National Gallery, London, the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, + RGI, Edinburgh. 

Residencies: 2011 at Gaelic faculty of the University of the Highlands + Islands, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle-of-Skye

(Mòrsgeul/Roisgeul and Taghairmeachd cycles result), leading to group exhibition at RSA (Mòrsgeul + AV work, "Taghairm, a gathering summons") + Roots of Higher Powers cycles of work (ongoing)

1997: Künstlerhaus Saarbrücken, Saarland, Germany. Exhibitions and "Alchemical Wedding" work cycle result

Solo: Most recent - "Odyssee" (a visual-philosophical exploration of artificial realities)

"ALETHEIA" (a poeto-visual quest for truth); "Pantechnikon" (a retrospective in 240 exhibits); "XL" (the State of the Art), among many others extending back to 1991...

Group: As regularly as possible in Berlin as a visual and literary contributor to the underground 'zine PROLOG-Heft für Zeichnung und Text (last exhibition in KuLe, Auguststraße, Berlin-Mitte, Summer 2018); "Auszug", ArteRomeiasProjekt, Singen, Germany; "Cross Correspondence" (with Harry + Scott Henriksen, Kinblethmont Gallery, Kinblethmont Castle, Angus, Scotland); Demarco New Contemporaries, Edinburgh, among many others extending back to 1991...

 

The artist speaks, reads, dreams and writes in English, German, and Scottish Gaelic (in that order)

He is also currently on the lookout for courageous and dedicated gallery representation

and an agent/publishing opening for a newly-completed collection of modern ghost stories

 

The artist might currently reside on the northern shores of the Lake of Constance, but his heart's in the Highlands, chasing the deer...
